1973 මාර්තු 8 දින මෙම හෝටලයේ නිර්මාතෘ ජේ.පී.ගුනවර්ධන මහතා විසින් කොලඹ-නුවර පාරේ කළගෙඩිහේන ප්‍රදේශයේ එස්වරලෑන්ඩ් වත්ත නම් ඉඩමේ දැනට සිසිල හෝටලය ඉදිකර ඇති ඉඩමේ “සිසිල භෝජනාගාරය” නමින් මෙම හෝටලය ඉදිකරන ලදී.

පාරිභෝගිකයන් 60 දෙනෙකුට වඩා එක්වර අසුන්ගත හැකි භෝජනාගාරයක්, විශාල රථගාලක්, ප්‍රභූ භෝජන කාමරයක්, විශාල මුළුතැන්ගෙයක්, ගබඩාකාමරයක්, දුම් පානය කරන වෙනම ස්ථානයක්, සේවක නේවාසිකාගාරයකින් සමන්විත වරකපොල සිට කිරිබත්ගොඩ දක්වාම ප්‍රථම හා එකම හෝටලය ලෙස මෙය ආරම්භ කෙරිනි.

ඉදිකිරීමේ ආකර්ෂණීය බව, ආහාරවල රසවත් බව, පිරිසිදු බව හා ගුණාත්මක සුහදශීලි පාරිභෝගික සේවාව නිසා ආරම්භයේ සිටම විශාල පාරිභෝගිකයන් පිරිසක් පැමිණි අතර, එවකට නුවර පාරේ ගමන් කල වන්දනා නඩ බස්‍ රථ, විනෝද චාරිකා බස් රථ මෙන්ම භාන්ඩ ප්‍රවාහන, අලෙවි, ලොරි රථ, වෑන්, මගී ප්‍රවාහන බස් රථ ආදියෙන් පැමිණි පාරිභෝගිකයන්ගෙන් රථ ගාල, භෝජනාගාරය පිරී ඉතිරී ගියහ.

කෙටිකලක් තුල මෙය දිවයිනේ ප්‍රසිද්ධ ප්‍රභූ පිරිස් මෙන්ම ජනප්‍රිය පුද්ගලයන්ගේ තෝතැන්නක් බවට පත් විය. ආහාරවල ප්‍රනීත බව හා පිරිසිදු බව නිසා ඉතා ඉහළ වෙළදාමක් පැවති හෝටලයේ නිර්මාතෘ ජේ.පී.ජේ.පී.ගුනවර්ධන මහතාගේ ප්‍රයමනාප පෙනුම ආකර්ෂණීය සිනහව නිසාත් ඔහුගේ නිහතමානී මහත්මා ගතිගුණ නිසාත් බොහෝ ප්‍රශංසා ඔහු වෙතද පැමිණියහ.

නොබෝ කලකින් හෝටලයට යා කරමින් “ගෝල්ඩන් බර්ඩ්” නමින් බේකරි ව්‍යාපාරයක් ද ආරම්භ කල අතර එහි පාන්, බනිස්, කේක්, රුලං, මස්කට්, දොදොල් වැනි දෑ ප්‍රදේශය පුරා මෙන් ම ශ්‍රී පාදස්ථානය අවට ද දිවයින පුරා ද බෙදා හැරීය.

ඉන් පෙරට යමින් තවත් පියවරක් ලෙස ලේක්හවුස් පුවත්පත් නියෝජන ලෙස සියලුම පුවත්පත් ප්‍රදේශය පුරා බෙදා හරිනු ලැබුයේ එවකට “වෑන් බයිසිකල්” නමින් හදුන්වනු ලැබූ ඉදිරිපස විශාල කූඩයක් සහිත බයිසිකල් මගිනි.

අසූව දශකයේ ප්‍රදේශයේ ඉතා ජනප්‍රිය හා ඉතා සාර්ථක ව්‍යාපාරයක් වූ හෝටලය දෙපස වාහන දිගු පෝලිම් නිසා එකල උදේ කාලයේ නුවර පාරේ ගමන් කිරීම පවා අපහසු විය.

ඉන්පසු අවාසනාවන්ත අයුරින් 1980-10-06 දින මෙහි නිර්මාතෘ ජේ.ජේ.පී.ගුනවර්ධන මහතා හදිසි හර්දයාබාදයකින් අභාවප්‍රාප්ත විය.
ඉන්පසුව එම ගුනවර්ධන මහත්මියගේ සහෝදරයකු විසින් එම ව්‍යාපාරය පවත්වාගෙන යාමට භාරගත් අතර ඔහුගේ දුර්වල කළමනාකරණය හා ව්‍යාපාරික දැනුමක් නොමැති කම, පටු ආකල්ප අරමුණු හේතුවෙන් ව්‍යාපාරයේ කඩාවැටීම ආරම්භ කෙරිනි. දින දින දියුනුවට පත් වෙමින් තිබූ ව්‍යාපාරය ඉතා කෙටි කාලයකින් බංකොලොත් භාවයට පත්ව වසා දැමිනි. වසා දැමුනු බේකරි ව්‍යාපාරයේ ගරා වැටෙමින් තිබූ වටිනා ගොඩනැගිල්ල පවා කඩා ඉවත් කිරීමට තරම් එම කලමනාකාරීත්වය දුර්වල විය. අක්කරයක් පුරා විහිදී ගිය හෝටල් පරිශ්‍රය පර්චස් 30 කට සීමා විය. ඉන්පසු පුද්ගලයන් කිහිප දෙනෙකු අතර බදු දීමෙන් පසුව ද බංකොලොත්ව වසා දැමීය.

ඉන් වසර ගනණකට පසුව හෝටලයේ නිර්මාතෘ ජේ.පී.ගුනවර්ධන මහතාගේ එකම පුත්‍රයා වූ චමින්ද ගුණවර්ධන මහතා විසින් මෙම ව්‍යාපාරය ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. නැතිවී ගිය වෙළදාම දින දින සාර්ථක වෙමින් නැවතත් ව්‍යාපාරය සාර්ථක ලෙස ගමන් ඇරඹිනි. නුවර පාරේ තිබූ පැරණි ගොඩනැගිල්ල කඩා ඉවත් කර නව ගොඩනැගිල්ලක මෙම හෝටලය ඉදිකර ඇති අතර නැවතත් විශාල වශයෙන් පාරිභෝගිකයන් පැමිණි අතර වතුපිටිවල, මල්වත්ත ආදී ආයෝජන කලාපවල ආහාර සැපයුම්කරුවකු ලෙස ද 2022 වසර සිට A ශ්‍රේණියේ ආපන ශාලාවක් ලෙස ද පිදුම් ලැබීය. දිවයිනේ පැවති අයහපත් ආර්ථික කාල වකවානුවක වුවත් උපරිම ලෙස පිරිසිදු බවින් හා ගුණාත්මක සේවාවක් උපරිම ලෙස සැපයුවේ ප්‍රශංසා බුහුමන් උපහාර මැද මෙන් ම නින්දා අපහාස අඩුපාඩු අතපසුවීම් මැද ඒවා දරාගෙන ය.

අවුරුදු 50 කට ආසන්න කාල වකවානුවක් තුල කොලඹ-නුවර පාරේ අංක 62 දරණ ස්ථානයේ අද දින දක්නට ලැබෙන්නේ “සිසිල හෝටලය” නමින් වූ ඒම ආපන ශාලාවයි.

On March 8, 1973, the founder of this hotel, Mr. J.P. Gunawardena, built this hotel under the name “Sisila Bhojanagariya” on the land where the Sisila Hotel is currently built, in the Kalgedihena area of ​​Colombo-Kandy Road.

This was started as the first and only hotel from Warakapola to Kiribathgoda with a dining hall that can seat more than 60 customers at a time, a large car park, a VIP dining room, a large kitchen, a storage room, a separate smoking area, and a staff dormitory.

A large number of customers came from the beginning due to the attractiveness of the construction, the deliciousness of the food, the cleanliness and the quality friendly customer service, and at that time there were pilgrimage buses, excursion buses as well as goods transport, sales, lorries, vans, passengers traveling on Kandy Road. The car park and dining hall were full of customers who came from transport buses etc.

In a short time, this became a haven for famous dignitaries and celebrities of the island. Mr. JPJP Gunawardena, the founder of the hotel, which had a very high trade due to the freshness and cleanliness of the food, received many compliments due to his pleasant appearance, charming smile and his humble gentlemanly qualities.

Soon, a bakery business named “Golden Bird” was started next to the hotel and its bread, buns, cakes, rulang, musket, dodol etc. were distributed all over the area as well as around Adam’s Peak and all over the island.

In a further step forward, Lakehouse Press represented all newspapers throughout the area by bicycles with a large basket on the front, then known as “van bicycles”.

The hotel, which was a very popular and successful business in the area in the eighties, made it difficult even to travel on Kandy Road in the morning due to long queues of vehicles on both sides.

Then, unfortunately, on 10-06-1980, the founder Mr. JJP Gunawardena passed away due to a sudden heart attack.
Then a brother of Mrs. Gunawardena took over to run the business and due to his poor management and lack of business knowledge and narrow minded goals, the business began to collapse. The business, which was developing day by day, became bankrupt and closed down in a very short time. The management was so weak that even the valuable crumbling building of the closed bakery business was demolished. The one-acre hotel premises were limited to 30 perches. It was then closed in bankruptcy after being leased between several individuals.

A few years later, Chaminda Gunawardena, the only son of the hotel’s founder, Mr. Chaminda Gunawardena, started this business. The lost business is becoming successful day by day and the business has started successfully again. The old building on Kandy road was demolished and this hotel was built in a new building and again a large number of customers came and it was honored as a food supplier in investment zones such as Vatupitiwala, Malwatta and from 2022 as a grade A restaurant. Even in the bad economic times of the island, they provided maximum cleanliness and quality service to the maximum, bearing them in the midst of praises and insults, shortcomings and omissions.

In a period of almost 50 years, the restaurant named “Sisila Hotel” can be seen today at No. 62 on the Colombo-Kandy Road.
